Fuel cell electric vehicles

Size a fuel cell vehicle or fleet.

Hydrogen use, H2C0 fuel cell, battery, hydrogen tank, range and refuelling time for one vehicle, then the hydrogen station and on-site electrolyser a fleet needs. Presets from two-wheelers to city buses and heavy trucks.

Indicative defaults. The vehicle figures are typical published values and will be replaced with Umagine's own once confirmed.

Umagine Hydrogen (UHPL) FCEV sizing model. Daily energy at the DC bus (energy use × distance) is traced back through a 97% converter, the battery (92% round trip on 20% of the energy) and the fuel cell's net efficiency to hydrogen at 33.33 kWh/kg (LHV). A full-power fuel cell is sized for the continuous power plus the margin, rounded up to an H2C0 build: one air-cooled unit up to 3 kW, otherwise the fewest liquid-cooled stacks of up to 50 kW. The battery covers peak power above the fuel cell (at least 30% of peak, for transients and regenerative braking) at its C-rate, or the battery-only range, whichever needs most. Tanks hold the range per fill plus the reserve, using the NIST hydrogen density (Lemmon 2008) at 15 °C and counting the tank empty at 20 bar. Fills take the amount used at the refuelling rate plus 3 minutes; dispensers are busy 70% of the refuelling window. Purified water is about 10 L per kg. Early-stage sizing; a design needs the vehicle's drive cycle and packaging.
